The limit depends on the data type. Numeric data only: up to 7,089 digits. Text with letters and numbers: up to 4,296 characters. Binary data (URLs, vCard text, arbitrary strings): up to 2,953 bytes at the highest version and lowest error correction. A typical https:// URL under 60 characters, a WiFi credential set, or a basic vCard all fit easily. For longer URLs, use a URL shortener first to keep the code less dense and easier to scan.

Error correction adds redundant data so the code remains readable if part of it is physically damaged or obscured. Level M (15% redundancy) is the right choice for most printed materials — it handles small tears, smudges, and minor print defects. Level H (30%) is for situations where significant damage is expected or where a logo or design element will cover part of the code's center. Higher error correction produces a denser, more complex code that requires a closer scan in low light.

SVG output scales to any size without quality loss, so use SVG for anything going to print. PNG is fixed-resolution — export it at the largest dimension you need and avoid scaling it up in a layout tool, which causes blurring. The minimum reliable print size for a typical QR code is roughly 2 cm x 2 cm (about 0.8 inches square) in good lighting. Smaller codes can work but require a closer camera distance.

A static QR code (which this generator creates) never expires. The pattern encodes fixed data — it will still scan in 20 years. If the code points to a URL that goes offline, the QR code scans correctly but the destination returns an error. Dynamic QR codes (which redirect through a short-link service) can be updated to point to a different URL, but this generator creates static codes only.
